A good hybrid role has a natural shape to it.
When children are in school or nursery, there may be time for laundry, cooking, tidying and household organisation. When the children are home, childcare takes priority.
For babies and younger children who need full-time care, the household element normally needs to be lighter and more closely related to the children.

Be realistic about time
A candidate cannot provide attentive childcare and carry out a full day's housekeeping simultaneously. The role needs enough space for both.
Define the duties
“Light housekeeping” means different things to different people. We prefer to spell out the actual responsibilities before interviews begin.
Agree the expectations
Hours, breaks, evenings, travel, cooking, weekends and live-in arrangements should be discussed clearly rather than discovered after the placement starts.

What is the difference between a nanny and a nanny-housekeeper?
A nanny's role is primarily childcare. A nanny-housekeeper combines childcare with agreed household responsibilities, with the balance depending on the children's ages and schedule.
Can a nanny-housekeeper look after a baby and clean the whole house?
Full-time infant care is demanding, so extensive housekeeping at the same time may not be realistic. The role should prioritise safe, attentive childcare and define household duties accordingly.
Can nanny-housekeepers cook for the family?
Some candidates have family-cooking experience and are happy to include it; others do not. Cooking requirements should be specified during the search.
Do you recruit live-in and live-out nanny-housekeepers?
Yes, subject to the requirements of the role, location and suitable candidate availability.
