How it works

Less searching.
More knowing who fits.

We start with the household, not a stack of CVs.

House of Yaya helps define the role, searches within its specialist network and introduces candidates whose experience and expectations make sense for the position. You meet them. You decide who feels right.

The House of Yaya approach

A CV can tell you where someone worked. Not how they'll feel in your home.

Experience matters. But private household recruitment is unusually personal.

Working style, communication, expectations, children's personalities, the pace of the home and whether people genuinely click can determine whether a placement lasts.

Our process is designed to understand both sides before an introduction is made.

For families

From “we need help”
to the right introduction.

You don't need to arrive with a perfect job description. We can help turn the reality of your week into a clearer brief.

01

Tell us how life actually works.

Children, household, hours, location, responsibilities, live-in or live-out, travel, cooking and the parts of the week where support would make the biggest difference.

02

We shape the role.

We clarify what is realistic and whether you need a nanny, nanny-housekeeper, housekeeper, temporary support or another household role.

03

We search for fit.

We look within the relevant candidate network for people whose actual experience, availability and expectations align with the brief.

04

You review the introductions.

Rather than treating every available CV as a match, the aim is to make introductions with a reason behind them.

05

You meet.

Interviews are where the human part becomes clearer. Ask about routines, experience and expectations — and notice whether conversation feels natural.

06

You choose.

You choose who to hire. We then confirm the checks, the offer and the paperwork with you. In a typical placement you employ the person directly, so the contract needs to match what you have agreed.

sometimes the strongest
The bit you can't automate

Sometimes the strongest CV isn't the strongest match.

And sometimes the person you didn't expect is the one everyone immediately relaxes around.

That doesn't mean experience is unimportant. It means recruitment is both evidence and relationship.

We want families to meet candidates with the right foundations, then make their own judgement about the connection.

Checks & references

Know what has been checked — and what still needs to happen.

Identity & right to work

For UK roles we verify right-to-work documentation. The candidate you hire has an Enhanced DBS check if they do not already have one.

References & background checks

We recommend you speak with previous employers yourself. We can take the references if you would rather we do it.

Role-specific documents

Driving, travel or DBS documents are requested when the role needs them. Not every document applies to every candidate.

Two sides of a good placement

The process should work for candidates too.

For families

Be clear about hours, duties, salary, accommodation, travel, evenings and what a normal day actually involves. Good candidates are choosing a household as much as a household is choosing them.

For candidates

Tell us what you have genuinely done, what kind of role you want next, your availability and the working arrangements that suit you. A good match starts with honest expectations on both sides.

After the introduction

The placement isn't just a start date.

Clear expectations before somebody begins can prevent a lot of problems afterwards.

Hours, duties, salary, breaks, holiday, notice, accommodation where relevant, travel expectations and employment documentation should be agreed properly between employer and employee.

Before you begin

How it works FAQs.

Do we need to know exactly which role we need?

No. Tell us about your household, your schedule and where you need support, and we’ll help you work out the right role. For some families that’s a nanny; for others it may be a nanny-housekeeper or housekeeper. We’ll help shape the brief before the search begins.

Will we be able to interview candidates ourselves?

Yes. We’ll introduce you to candidates we believe are a strong match, but the decision is always yours. You’ll have the opportunity to interview candidates, ask questions and make sure the fit feels right before deciding whether to proceed.

Do you complete references and checks?

We screen candidates before introducing them to a family. References usually take place later in the process, once you are seriously considering a candidate. Many experienced candidates prefer not to approach current or previous employers until there is genuine interest in a role, and availability can change quickly. We therefore avoid requesting references unnecessarily

Who employs the nanny or housekeeper?

In a typical household placement the family employs the nanny or housekeeper directly, and is responsible for pay, tax and other employment duties. Take payroll or employment advice from a qualified adviser when you need it.

What happens if a placement doesn't work out?

Permanent placements include one free replacement within three months, subject to the conditions in our terms of service. Temporary placements have a separate refund or replacement option, also set out there.
